Film Poster Ancillary Task

For the last few lessons I have been working on Adobe Photoshop to create this film poster below. I personally find photoshop a programme that is very confusing but this has helped me to become more competent with the software. The image that you see below in the poster was one of many that were taken on a photo shoot with all members of the team which gave us a sufficient amount of images to create a poster with enough room for changes of images.
This is the image that I chose to work from and develop with the final product after photoshop had been used.

Plans After The Holidays

Before the holidays we were landed with a large covering of snow that prevented us from filming outside if we wanted to keep the continuity. Now that we are back at school we have made plans to film this week to get our final footage and complete the editing before the deadline on Friday.

Approaching the Deadline

Today Vidur and I did a lot of editing. We added captions in to the footage that we have and now that we have some more captions etc it has allowed us some more material to play with transitions and so on which has turned out rather well. We did however find something that we had difficulty with and needed to figure out. This was to make the background on premiere elements white as opposed to the standard black.

We didn't actually discover how to do this, however, we did find an alternative. This problem occured when we were bringing captions from photoshop over to premiere elements. What we did as opposed to just cropping around the word, which we had done before, we cropped the whole photoshop page and then edited the size of the font to as large as we needed to create the same effect as before just with a white background.

With the deadline approaching, we need to concentrate on getting all of our final footage filmed and put on to premiere elements so that we can edit a final draft.

Today (Thursday 9th of December) is really the last day that we have a chance to film this term before we break up for the holidays. I have written up a shot list that we need to stick by this afternoon and then we will add that to the footage we already have before we go home for the Christmas holidays where we will not be able to do any filming due to the school being closed and all actors living in different countries.

Filming

This morning we filmed some footage in the 6th form centre. We are now uploading the footage on to the computers and then on to premier elements. Although the footage is good I am unsure about some of the lighting and because there were so many people around the character we will have to analyse it and make sure that there is nothing that makes it look unrealistic. This is possible and we may have to reshoot the footage if there are any problems, but so far we are reasonably happy with what we have captured today.

Also we have been revisiting our original shot list and we have noticed that some things have changed as the progress goes on. We have decided to differ from the original decisions due to the change in weather conditions and time available before the deadline.

Today's Filming

This evening we are hoping to do some filming at supper where we see the female character on the end of the anger of the other two male characters for cheating on them. The aim of the footage is nothing cynical but just to capture footage of the girl having a hard time and people not helping but more hindering the situation.
The reason we have chosen to do the filming in this public area is because there will be more realistic reactions in the kind of environment that everyone is familiar with. Also if there is a larger audience watching the filming take place the actor might give a more realistic embarrassed expression when something happens to her.

Tomorrow afternoon we are hoping to do the shots of the rugby ball being kicked and the same with the football as we are planning to do a split screen and use symmetry apart from the objects being kicked.

Weather Warning!

This week we have been watching the weather to ensure that we get our footage filmed before the snow falls because we are aware that if we have the majority of shots with damp conditions and the rest with a covering of snow then there will be a continuity issue. Today while discussing this issue there was a very heavy shower of hailstones. This means that we need to film the remaining footage today and tomorrow before the temperature causes it to snow.

The next trailer that I am going to discuss is Keeping the Faith. This film was made in the year of 2000 and it stars Ben Stiller, Edward Norton and Jenna Elfman as the 3 main characters.

A basic explination of what happens in the trailer is 2 best friends meet up with their childhood best friend. The guy that wasn't told that she was coming to visit them was jealous that he wasn't the one the she had chosen to call to say she was coming. We could see this by the shot not moving on to something else as fast as it does throughout the rest of the trailer, creating an awkward silence. There is a difference in story from this one and our film idea. This is that in our story there is 1 girl that is playing 2 guys at the same time where as in the trailer above there is 1 girl that 2 best friends are interested in but she chooses 1 of them. She tells one of the characters that she is in love with the other one 2:09 mins in to the trailer and you can see that he does not exactly react well to this 2:13 mins in when he punches his friend that she has fallen for.

Although after watching this trailer you have a very good idea of things that happen, it still makes you want to go and see the film to see how they got to that finishing point, i.e. events that happen along the way, and to see how it ends as there could be a twist in the story that isn't given away in the trailer.

Finally one of the things that I have discovered when researching the films success etc I found that people were unhappy about the cast. For example in the comment area on youtube for the trailer there are people asking why someone would choose those particular actors for the roles. This made me realise how important it is for us to cast our trailer with people that can really play the roles better than anyone else we could use. If something like having the wrong people playing the parts can be such a big influence on the trailer alone then the chances are there will be less people going to see the film.
