Final Caption Correction

When we re-edited our music to the final product we, for some reason, lost the titles which were on the final caption. When we replaced the final caption I decided to change the font that we used because I found one which looked very similar to that used on 'Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels' poster. Below is a JPEG of the caption. Now that this is in place our trailer is now entirely finished with all final editing complete.

Music and Copyright

After reviewing our trailer we noticed that we had used a copyrighted piece of music in our trailer. This was a mistake made on both our sides that we didnt notice till recently..

Iggy Pop's Im a Passanger is the main theme song we used in our trailer. This was a copyright music that we didnt realise. Hence we had to change the music that we used to a piece that we found on a perfect website called Freeplaymusic.com

This work has been exceptionally challenging as it has taken up a lot of our time in trying to find the perfect track that fits our whole genre of the movie.

Magazine Cover

Up here is my creation of the Magazine cover for my movie " Her Dilemma" I used photoshop to create this cover. I also took a photo shoot with the cast for my trailer. This helped us in ensuring that we used the perfect picture to produce our work. This was a hectic procedure but was fun.

Film Poster Ancillary Task

For the last few lessons I have been working on Adobe Photoshop to create this film poster below. I personally find photoshop a programme that is very confusing but this has helped me to become more competent with the software. The image that you see below in the poster was one of many that were taken on a photo shoot with all members of the team which gave us a sufficient amount of images to create a poster with enough room for changes of images.
This is the image that I chose to work from and develop with the final product after photoshop had been used.

YouTube

This lesson we uploaded the final cut of our trailer on to YouTube. This is a good way to get feedback from people outside the class. When we posted it up we realised that there was a problem with the sound and that the song that we have playing in the background had not kept the editing changes at the end of the song which had faded it out and cut it at just over 2 minutes. This means that before we embed it on to Facebook for extra feedback from our friends we will need to make sure we correct that error.

Captions

During the time that we have been editing our video, I have been coming up with the captions to add to our Trailer. We decided on the captions instead of voice overs as it wasnt fitting on our video. The captions give the story line and the characters names in the course of our trailer. This has made me learn more about Photoshop and been usefull for future use.

Here is an example of the caption

Rough Cut

This afternoon we are preparing to show our rough cut to the class. This is a great opportunity for recieving feedback, both positive and negative to help us make the final adjustments to the film. However there is still around 15 seconds of footage missing because the person that we needed for filming had other commitments and was unavailable for filming, so we will need to put that in in our spare time. At the moment it stands at 1:45mins so we are very happy with the progress.

Plans After The Holidays

Before the holidays we were landed with a large covering of snow that prevented us from filming outside if we wanted to keep the continuity. Now that we are back at school we have made plans to film this week to get our final footage and complete the editing before the deadline on Friday.

1st Edit of Trailer

This is our first edit of the video that we have been making.

There might be a few problems that we might encounter during the upload but should be sorted out. Also the video is not fully finished and requires a few more videos to be added on to it which will then be completed with the appropriate captions.

Approaching the Deadline

Today Vidur and I did a lot of editing. We added captions in to the footage that we have and now that we have some more captions etc it has allowed us some more material to play with transitions and so on which has turned out rather well. We did however find something that we had difficulty with and needed to figure out. This was to make the background on premiere elements white as opposed to the standard black.

We didn't actually discover how to do this, however, we did find an alternative. This problem occured when we were bringing captions from photoshop over to premiere elements. What we did as opposed to just cropping around the word, which we had done before, we cropped the whole photoshop page and then edited the size of the font to as large as we needed to create the same effect as before just with a white background.

With the deadline approaching, we need to concentrate on getting all of our final footage filmed and put on to premiere elements so that we can edit a final draft.

Today (Thursday 9th of December) is really the last day that we have a chance to film this term before we break up for the holidays. I have written up a shot list that we need to stick by this afternoon and then we will add that to the footage we already have before we go home for the Christmas holidays where we will not be able to do any filming due to the school being closed and all actors living in different countries.

Filming

This morning we filmed some footage in the 6th form centre. We are now uploading the footage on to the computers and then on to premier elements. Although the footage is good I am unsure about some of the lighting and because there were so many people around the character we will have to analyse it and make sure that there is nothing that makes it look unrealistic. This is possible and we may have to reshoot the footage if there are any problems, but so far we are reasonably happy with what we have captured today.

Also we have been revisiting our original shot list and we have noticed that some things have changed as the progress goes on. We have decided to differ from the original decisions due to the change in weather conditions and time available before the deadline.

Today's Filming

This evening we are hoping to do some filming at supper where we see the female character on the end of the anger of the other two male characters for cheating on them. The aim of the footage is nothing cynical but just to capture footage of the girl having a hard time and people not helping but more hindering the situation.
The reason we have chosen to do the filming in this public area is because there will be more realistic reactions in the kind of environment that everyone is familiar with. Also if there is a larger audience watching the filming take place the actor might give a more realistic embarrassed expression when something happens to her.

Tomorrow afternoon we are hoping to do the shots of the rugby ball being kicked and the same with the football as we are planning to do a split screen and use symmetry apart from the objects being kicked.

Weather Warning!

This week we have been watching the weather to ensure that we get our footage filmed before the snow falls because we are aware that if we have the majority of shots with damp conditions and the rest with a covering of snow then there will be a continuity issue. Today while discussing this issue there was a very heavy shower of hailstones. This means that we need to film the remaining footage today and tomorrow before the temperature causes it to snow.

Update On Filming

For the last week we have started filming our trailer video's that we will be using. To kickstart the project we first met up in our lunch hall with our designated actors and discussed our locations, type of shots and also what costume we would be looking to wear for these shots. At first we had a few shots around one of the main Boarding houses called Bruce. Then making our way through the woods we got a few more to make the scene fit. Also we got a couple near the main building of our school.

During my editing seasions I realized that we required many more shots that need to to taken before winter starts. Also we decided as a group that Warner Brothers would be perfect to use in our trailer as the production company.

The main theme song for our trailer that I have decided to use is Im a Passanger by Iggy Pop. This song suits our genre of love and treachary. But also suits the builds up of our videos that we are editing.

Production Company

This is the production company label that we have chosen to use in our film. Many trailers have this at the begining however we have chosen not to do this but as an alternative set it in to the trailer. Below is an example of a trailer that has the same thing. The clips is inserted around 25 or 26 seconds in to the trailer.

My magazine Edit

Over the last week I have been editing a magazine cover just to get practise for creating our real magazine cover. I took a picture from the internet of Jessica Alba and edited to make sure it fits on the magazine that I want. I took initial ideas from magazines such as " Total Film" and " Empire Magazine". On the sides there were many short catch frases to engage the reader to go on reading about their favourite stars.

Empire magazine is pretty similar to what Total film has to offer in the sense that they provide a service of entertainment and news about what, where and how new films and being produced and when they are coming out.

This is a picture of my edited magazine cover with Jessica Alba on it

Importance of Film Posters for Promotion

Ironically in the early days of movie making actors were not usually depicted on the film posters. The title of the film and the producer and directors names were usually the attraction until Hollywood realized that it was the actors who brought in the viewers. It was at that time that the stars of movies were then plastered on each poster giving life to a new era in the film industry.

Movie posters created before the eighties were mainly returned to the studios or poster sources and destroyed when the archives became full or the film's run had ended. Many early film posters made for hit movies such as Casablanca, King Kong, Frankenstein and The Wizard of Oz were destroyed as a result of natural disasters that occurred during World War II. As people became more aware of their value theatre owners began to ignore return policies and those film posters that were spared are widely sought today by collectors and dealers.

To find out how influential a film poster was in the promotion of a film I asked people in my media class what they thought and why. The general concensus on the topic is that they are actually very important. If you go to the cinema regularly then you will see trailers for new releases often but if you are not a regular cinema goer then a film poster is what makes you go online to watch the trailer, which then makes you go to the cinema. So as you can see there is a great need for a film poster even with all of today's technology. There are obviously other ways that people find out about new films but this proves that posters are still very influential.
